Airbrush Makeup

Have you ever wondered how celebrities get perfect makeup? Sometimes it looks as if they came right out of a
magazine after technological wizardry has altered them. You can also create these same looks after some practice
using airbrush make-up.
This is generally how it goes. A special foundation is mixed with a bit of water and airbrushed or sprayed on to
your face. Using this technique will apply less foundation and hide many blemishes with ease, including dark
circles and other skin problems. After the foundation is laid, the other layers of makeup are also airbrushed
on.
You will need a few things to airbrush your makeup but they won’t come cheap. The airbrush makeup air
compressor, the spraying wand, hoses will run you between $100 and up. However, generally a decent kit will cost
about $350 to get you started. On top of that you will need your foundation with should cost just under $30. So as
you can see, the initial costs are a bit expensive, but if you take care of the equipment it will last you a long
time.

Here are some general tips on how to apply makeup using an airbrush:
a) Each brand of foundation will have their own specific directions, but they will generally
ask you to put a couple drops of foundation and a couple drops of water in the mixing cup. Make sure it is mixed
well because if not, when it is being sprayed the consistency will not be uniform when it reaches your face.
b) You should hold the spraying wand at least 6 inches away from your face. Always keep
the spraying wand moving in circular motions to avoid building up too much foundation in one place. Another thing
to keep in mind is to avoid getting it in to your eyes. In fact, you should never have your eyes open for safety
reasons. I suggest wearing a very small pair of swimming goggles.
c) Before you apply a second coat of foundation, wait for the first layer to completely
dry. This is similar to any painting style. Once it’s dry, you won’t need any finishing powder or creams as this
foundation is make for this purpose.
You can buy silicone or water based foundations but most professional makeup artists will claim that the
silicone provides a more perfect look. Either way, you need to buy foundation that is designed to be airbrushed as
regular foundation will wreck your machine beyond reasonable repair.
For other types of airbrush makeup such as eye shadow and blush, you will require a different tip for your
spraying wand. You can buy specific airbrush eye shadow and blush for spraying, but if you prefer to apply it by
hand then you can do that just as well. Again, keep in mind that you cannot use your regular makeup with an
airbrush system.
So what are the advantages and disadvantages of airbrush makeup?
Advantages:
- After you have applied everything, you should be good for 10 hours or
more. Usually it won’t seep in to your skin or rub off on your clothing.
- Sharing makeup using an airbrush is safe. No parts should be touching your
skin so everyone can have a turn without worrying about catching something.
- It is extremely easy to apply stencils or create special effects. The more
that you practice and play with it, the better you will become
Disadvantages:
- The initial cost is what turns most people off. Try getting a system for
Christmas or gift certificates to help offset the price.
- It takes a lot of time in the beginning to get things up and running. It
also needs to be done where you have access to a power supply.
- It’s hard to do it by yourself since you should really have your eyes
closed.
- If you should happen to need a touch up, touching up by hand may look
noticeable.
- The concentration of makeup particle in the air may cause harm to your
lungs if you’re using it constantly. There is no solid evidence yet, but it makes sense that it can’t be good to
breath in makeup every day.
Give yourself a chance and try airbrush makeup. You might find you look more appealing and that will certainly
boost your confidence.
