A lot of people think that there are certain makeup rules for different eye colors. However, there are certain
things you can do to make those beautiful brown eyes show their best. If you want to experiment or like other
colors than I’m about to suggest, then feel free to do so. These are basically guidelines to get you started off in
the right direction. After all, there are hundreds of colors and shades to choose from and it can be a daunting
task to mix and match them.
The right eyeshadow for brown eyes has always been colors that are similar such as brown,
beige, and tan. You may opt for a more colorful choice such as purples and violet or charcoal and smoky gray.
You will often hear that you should never use the same color eyeshadow as your eye color. However, I think with
brown eyes this is acceptable. I think it depends on the tone of brown that you are using. If you like brighter
colors, then you should spend a weekend to test out a wide range of options. Plus it is a good way to call the
girls over for a bit of fun.
One thing I want to stress is not to use black eye shadow. Black should be reserved for Halloween, funerals, and
movies. Brown eyes really don’t mix well with black shadow since they are already dark as it is.
There are some colors that you shouldn’t choose such as pink, red, or mauve. Unfortunately these will only make
you look swollen or bruised up. In some cases it will make your eyes look puffy. From a science perspective, the
pink you apply might have an altered appearance on your skin. Another color of eye shadow to avoid is silver. Brown
eyes don’t handle silver well either and tend to give you a “used” look.
Eyeliners are a simple choice for brown eyes. You should use black or dark brown. However, be sure not to apply
it too thick so you don’t end up looking like a raccoon. All other standard tips apply when trying to give the
appearance of larger or smaller eyes.
If you aren’t too confident with your makeup, then experiment until you find something you like. A good tip is
to take a picture of every style you choose and review them later on. You should also show the pictures to a good
friend or mother to see what they think.
Green and copper are other great choices of eyeshadow for brown eyes. If you are on a budget you can buy a large
eyeshadow palette from places like amazon.com for under $20 and it
will last you a long time. If that is too much you can always ask your friends, neighbors, or coworkers, if they
have any makeup they don’t use that you could buy off of them. Most of the time, they will give it to you for free
because it allows them to get it off their hands.
